If you would like my autograph or a signed bookplate, (which you can stick to the inside of my book) write to me with your request.  Be sure to ENCLOSE A SELF-ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE. That's an envelope that you address to yourself, put a stamp on, and put it in the envelope that you mail to me with your letter. This is important.  If you don't enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope, I am sorry but I will not be able to mail you a reply.

Where did the idea for ‘The Land Beyond the Clouds’ come from?

About 15 years ago the story came to me in a flash of inspiration. I had the beginning and the end…but not the  middle.  I wrote down the idea and filed it away.  I didn’t know if I was ever going to write the story, but I didn’t want to lose the idea.  When I left my job working for a big computer company I blew the dust off my book idea and began to fill in the middle.  Next thing I knew The Land Beyond the Clouds had turned into a book. If you would like to read a little of the book click here Read an Excerpt or if you would like Chapters 1&2 emailed to you click here Chapters 1&2

Will Anna and Tedith continue their Journey in another book?

I am pretty sure you haven’t seen the last of Anna and Tedith.

Do you have any tips for young people who want to become writers?

Read  Find out what you like and what you don’t like. Is is adventure, science fiction, fantasy?  Notice how the authors of your favorite books make the story interesting.

Keep a Journal  Get a notebook you really like and a special pen or pencil.  Then write in your journal often.  Look at your journal as a friend that you can tell anything to. Like what is bugging you or what you ate for lunch or things you like about your life.  Write about what you did in school or over the weekend or about your parents & friends.  Of course you can also write story ideas in your journal.

Make Lists  In the back of the journal start making different lists.  Make a list of your favorite foods, movies and names.  How about a list of the places you would like to travel, (of place you have already been). Create a list of things you want to do, people you admire, all the books you’ve read. Lists are wonderful and can give you ideas for stories and characters.

Write Letters and Postcards  Do you have a favorite Aunt or Uncle?  How about a Grandparent you are fond of.  Or perhaps a friend that moved away or you met at summer camp?  Write them a card or letter.  Try to write a letter to someone once a month.  This is really good practice for being a author.

Will you come and speak at our school, local library or bookstore?

I love being asked to do book reading.  Drop me an email with the details and we’ll talk.

What things do you like to do?

I love to read (surprise) and like Anna I always have at least one book ‘on the go’.  We have a tree house in our backyard and when the weather is nice I like to take a cup of tea and a good book into the tree house and spend some quiet time reading.  I am a movie buff and watch 2-3 movies per week.  I like to go for walks on the beach with my dog Sadie.  I have recently taken up oil painting. I love to travel and explore new places. When I am in a new city  I like to wander through bookstores, art stores, museums and galleries. My husband and I like to cook and enjoy having friends over for dinner.

What were your favorite books as a child?

As a young child I adored anything by Dr. Susses, (still do); ‘Harold and the Purple Crayon’, ‘Curious George’, ‘The Five Chinese Brothers’, ‘Barbar the Elephant’ were also favorites.  When I could read better I loved, ‘The Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler’, ‘Alice in Wonderland’, ‘The Pearl’, ‘Treasure Island’ and the ‘Wizard of Oz’.

What kind of child were you? What were your favorite subjects in school?

I was a rather shy, creative child that was pretty good at sports. Volleyball, track and field, and basketball were my favorites.  My favorite classes were gym and art!  I also liked math and science.  Even though I loved to read English was one of my least favorite subjects—grammar and spelling didn’t come easily to me.
